Software Localization

What is localization?

Enabling foreign software to be used in Japan invariably requires translation of the software itself, together with help files and manuals.

Online help pages and manuals are usually just a matter of straight translation, but adapting the software itself frequently entails adjustments not only to operational resources (on-screen menus, commands, messages) but also actual program code and software specifications, tasks that go beyond the capabilities of most translation companies, and are referred to collectively as "localization".

Boasting the technical expertise to localize software, WIP is a true localization company.

Features offered by WIP as a localization company

Confidentiality protection and risk management

We exchange confidentiality agreements with all internal staff (translation managers, temporary and part-time staff) and external resources (cooperating companies and translators). We also exercise maximum care with regard to the implementation of such risk management measures as secure storage of, and restricted access to all files, file backup, and computer virus checks.

Internal procedures and project management

WIP boasts a wealth of experience in the field of localization, and all processes are supervised by project managers well versed in both translation and IT. WIP has also prepared standard procedure manuals covering internal processes, and has established a system that ensures sustained high quality through quality control management, maintenance of glossaries, checking, capacity management and so forth.

Translation

WIP uses only translators that rank at the top of their respective translation fields. It also utilizes translation memory (TM) tools that put many years of accumulated translation assets to work. WIP was in fact one of the first localization companies in Japan to use TRADOS(C), perhaps the world's most widely acclaimed TM tool. TM not only helps maintain consistency between translations, but also boosts translation speed and efficiency, and can lead to considerable savings in translation charges.
